Edmonton Valley Zoo

Located in the heart of the river valley, the Edmonton Valley Zoo is Alberta's only accredited zoo with state-of-the-art education and research facilities. Situated on the North Saskatchewan River banks, the zoo is an intimate and interactive park with over 350 native and exotic animals and more than 100 species. The park features year-round education programs, children's camps, and amusement rides.

PARTICIPATION IN THE SPECIES SURVIVAL PLAN AND RED PANDA BREEDING

The Edmonton Valley Zoo promotes animal protection through its involvement in the Species Survival Plan, worldwide effort spearheaded by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association whose goal is to restore the population of endangered animals to the wilderness for a many varieties of species. Since 2007, the zoo has raised six rare red panda cubs.
 
LEMUR HABITAT

Makira Outpost is a newer exhibit at the Edmonton Valley Zoo and home to the lemurs. The zoo provides indoor and outdoor areas for these rare animals benefit from the natural light and climb around on the large elm trees. Makira Outpost includes Ring-tailed lemurs, Red-fronted lemurs and African Spurred Tortoise.
